Lately, a young talented singer song-writer from Switzerland caught my attention because his lyrics are so full with really true statements, underlaid with a certain satire, irony and sarcasm. His music is in German language, and although that might not fit into my international music blog, I am confident to say that this young man has the potential to make it to the top of the German-speaking singer-songwriter scene. If he is not already there!
FABER, with his civil name Julian Pollina, was born in 1993 in Zürich, Switzerland. His band "Goran Koč y Vocalist Orkestar Band" consists of four musicians. In 2017, Faber was proud to present his debut album "Sei ein Faber im Wind" - Be a Faber in the wind!
According to his bio on his website, "Faber knew already from a young age on what he wanted to do with his life. The musician is of Italian descent, but was raised in Zürich, Switzerland. His dad was and is already a musician, but the early music education, which is wide spread in Switzerland, wasn't really of Faber's interest. He preferred to do something real, something cool instead."
"At the age of approx. 15, he started to write his own songs and lyrics. His first EP, extended play record, was financed by Crowdfunding, followed by a second one a year later and since then it is going on and on and on...
For his first album, he teamed up with Tim Tautorat to do business at the legendary "Berliner Hansa Studios" in Germany, where the producer has his studio. The outcome of this co-working is now his debut album "Sei ein Faber im Wind" - Be a Faber in the wind - and brings together everything what music is about."
"Faber grew up with Sicilian folk songs, he loves Trubai, the awesome Chansons-French, Polka, but also Folk and nuances from the old US American way of music. When thinking about Faber you might also think about Francesco Paolo Frontini, Jacques Brel, Georges Moustaki or Fabrizio de André, who's nickname was also Faber's nickname. From all this influences he takes out the distinguished red wine and brings the music to the streets, where it is coming from and where it belongs to."

When listening to his songs, you will recognize the performance of trombones, pianos, guitars and violins and last but not least the voice of Faber. He writes and perfoms his songs and lyrics with a sharp view on different social aspects, takes a slight political stance on different topics, where you can hear the underlaid satire, irony and sarcasm, but in general, his lyrics are about everything and nothing at the same time. He really expresses his own cool-ness and you get to know that he would never write songs without having experienced life in all its facets.
Recently (2018), he won one of those famous ;-) Swiss Music Awards in the category "Artist Award".
